Instant Slumber Party at GH5

Because we were stressed and were looking for reasons not to work at home, this is what happened the other night at Guest House 5:

Chocolate mask on me and Face Shop’s Pearl Collagen mask on Mae - all courtesy of our in-house parlorista: Zara Melgar.

Here is Zara covered with mud and clay chocolate mask as well. May I just say that Zara has the gentlest (tiny) hands in… Cabuyao. Haha. We told her that she can really make a career out of this. (The night before this she just colored my hair and given me a very relaxing head massage afterwards.) Just look at this stolen shot while we were waiting for our masks to set:

HAHAHA. Yes i sometimes sleep with my mouth open when I’m tired. Don’t judge! ;) Zaw, the arm! Sometimes, I wake up and see Zara in this position with the TV remote in hand. Haha.

We should have given Bloody Bear-y a facial spa too! :)

Mapawa River Trekking Adventure

First of all, sorry for this super late post. I’ve been swamped with work and stuck in an internet-less residence for the past two weeks (and for the next weeks/months/years —> haha joking, won’t survive that!). This adventure is probably the reason why i got this. The bruise is gone now which is a proof of how late this post is.

Anyway, everything happened last April 21, a day after our department team building in Cagayan de Oro. A few of us decided to extend our stay there to make the most out of the trip. On the 20th, we stayed in Dahilayan in Bukidnon and the next day, we rented a van to take us to Mapawa which cost us Php3000. The fee provides an all-in ride from Bukidnon to anywhere around CdO city for a max of 12 hrs (pwede na especially if mapuno niyo ung van - Php3000/10 = Php300!).

The way to Mapawa was a 20-30 minute bumpy ride from the highway. From the registration area, we rode a small truck to take us uphill.  After that it was another 20-minute walk to the first activity of the trek. We passed by this “400-year old” tree according to the guide whom Sir Erwin somehow doesn’t believe. Haha.

After a few more minutes of walking, the action began!

1. SLIDE. It was literally a slide through a small waterfalls into (no idea how) deep waters. It was very scary at first. We were so proud of Ms. Pam who was able to slide despite her fear of heights. :)

2. BODY RAPPEL. This one is fairly easy since the start-off point wasn’t that high. (Never mind my face, arte lang yan haha)

3. JUMP. This was the scariest for me. It was a great test on mind and body coordination! I felt like my legs had a mind of their own. If I stayed a few more minutes contemplating if I’ll jump or not, I wouldn’t have done it. Here is the view from the jump-off point:

It was perfect situation where the term “Just Do It” applies. ;) Too bad Kuya guide who was taking pictures using my cam didn’t have the right reflexes.

I’ve always been a victim of wrong timing when I jump! Check this out.

4. RAPPEL. I was very confident about this last stunt having done rappelling before. But when I was being guided into position, 60 feet above the water, my knees started shaking uncontrollably. Sabi nga nung guide, parang may earthquake daw sa tuhod ko. HAHA. I think my shaking knees were a factor why Sir Ricky didn’t do the rappelling. Sorry! :| I got the hang of it after a few steps down. It was fun especially when I reached the point where water from the falls was splashing on me. (pictures from Kevin)

All in all, I’d highly recommend this activity package to adventure-seekers out there. But I can’t say that I’ll do it all over again for Php1000. One round is enough. Haha! :)

Best features of my new home for 2 months: a 40/50-inch cable TV and a walk-in closet (connected to a bathroom with hot water). How I wish I can stay here forever!

P.S. Forgot to mention the air conditioning. I can clearly remember uncomfortable nights in Makati with my small fan by my side - never again I hope. :|

Boracay 2012

April13-ish: I received a phone call at the office. It was Renee.
“Boy, we should go to Boracay this Labor Day weekend. Everyone’s going there!”

And indeed, everyone was there. We saw a lot of officemates (Gwen, Meg, Ana J. and many more) and college friends (David and Ralph). Addison knew someone wherever he looked. As usual. ;)

Cebu + Lechon = Zubuchon

On our first night in Cebu last Monday, we ate their famous “sauce-less” lechon for dinner at Zubuchon in One Mango Mall, Mango Avenue, Cebu City. A friend of mine even has something to say about it.

Here is half kilo of the deadly lechon priced at Php200++. The meat is very tasty, it can actually do on its own, but I still love it with sauce . I think Kapampangans are generally fond of having dipping sauce (or tiltilan in the local language) when they eat.

That plate came from this man (I just love menus written on chalkboards):

Poor pig. I wonder how wany lechon’s get slaughtered everyday to become roasted here in Cebu… Anyway, Zubuchon says their lechon is best paired with this:

This is their Kamias shake. It’s acidity is just right to balance the oily taste of the lechon but I hope they can filter it before serving to remove some course particles which seem to get stuck in my throat. (Ehem!) Some villages in India actually drink this to control obesity and study it for its anti-fat properties. I’ll have to research more on that.

We also ordered dinuguan which I did not like because i could taste that it had coconut cream for some reason. But aside from that, the meal was great buit was on the pricy side. Don’t forget to try it when you’re in Cebu especially if you’re a meat lover.

P.S. The Zubuchon logo is SO cute! ;)

Sashimi Surprise. This has got to be the most diverse sashimi set I ever tasted. Clockwise from left: salmon, mackerel, sea urchin (plus some squid under it), fish#3, tuna and fish#4. Sorry I’m not so good with names. Hehe. It was my first (and probably LAST time) to eat sea urchin. It literally tastes like the sea! Eekkk. But other than that, my tummy was definitely happy with the authentic Japanese food I filled it with. And my wallet was happier since I didn’t pay a dime. :P

This is one nasty bruise at the back of my right knee which I discovered this morning. I can’t remember where I got it though. Among our adventures last weekend - a.) Cagayan river rafting, b.) zorb in Dahilayan and c.) Mapawa river trekking - I think choice C is the most logical answer. I’ll soon be posting pictures to answer WHY. :)

Today was “work from hotel” day. Best part of it is the high-speed internet - too bad I don’t have my personal laptop with me to practice my pirate skills. ;) I’ll be staying here at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City until Friday for work. The room is great but what am I gonna do with that king size bed alone? It can easily fit 3 people. Maybe I’ll just sing that Rihanna song. (Guess what. Haha corny!) Anyway, I’m just thankful I don’t have to spend my last week before my final assignment in a hot and humid apartment in Makati. Okay, now back to work…
